Abstract
The conception of knowledge is as ancient as human civilization itself. The longest lived, most pertinent sort of information is called as knowledge. Knowledge is significant not only to business sector but society as a whole. In recent years the concept of Knowledge Management has found its huge impact and influence in the field of management. Though the concept primary focuses to business organization but it is has also attracted library and information professionals to participate and make use of it for the effective management of library and information centers. The present paper conceptualizes the terms like data, information, knowledge, knowledge management and information of subjects. The paper further enumerates the applications and the need for Knowledge Management in libraries. It deals with types and growth of knowledge and focuses on role of libraries, librarians and information technology in knowledge management.
