Abstract
The multitude of ever evolving demands of a highly competitive work
environment requires constant updating of knowledge and skills of
employees in organisations to be able to function effectively. Coupled
with this is the need to deal with uncertainties and ambiguity when one
cannot rely on past experiences alone to tackle with the present problems.
The resultant misfit between environmental demands and person’s ability
results in stress. However, there is an increasing realisation that stress
cannot be avoided and hence the next best alternative would be to gear
oneself to not only manage stress but also to make the most out of it for
realising one’s potential. Hence a better understanding of stress would be
the first step towards coping with it effectively.
