Abstract

This paper is the result of an exhaustive review of some basic sectors to identify the trends in the journey of nations to economic development. A knowledge and understanding of the past trends in the evolution of developed countries would help us to craft the strategy for betterment in terms of social and economic growth. We have attempted to answer in this paper two questions, viz.: What the developed countries did and what the developing countries must do in order to become competitive. The paper has been largely India-centric in respect of developing countries, even though reference to China has been made frequently. Keywords: Infrastructure, Demography, Lifestyle, Recession
