Abstract

This paper not only examines the origins, evolution & the historical magnificence of libraries credited to kings’ munificence since ancient times, but also the contributions of governments, individuals and/or associations in the modern times; as well as exploring the transformative influence of Non Governmental Organizations (NGOs) on library development in India. It highlights how NGOs came into being and explores the contributions of NGOs to libraries, including establishment, development, maintenance, and expansion of libraries in India over the years.
