Abstract

This article unpacks employee turnover in the AI age through a meta-analysis of high-impact journals. The literature on turnover highlights contextual factors, including power dynamics, toxic work environments, mental and emotional disconnection, limited career prospects, job monotony, and extrinsic motivators such as compensation. Consolidating the literature on turnover through a massive meta-analysis of A category in HRM-related journals, followed by a field study interpreting quantitative inputs, from a stratified random sample of 100 respondents from the leading IT industry software engineers from Chennai. Results reveal that a sense of purpose has a moderating influence on job satisfaction, but surprisingly, counterintuitively, job satisfaction alone cannot retain employees.
