Abstract
This article attempts to examine
the concept and practices of CSR
in India based on the primary
data collected from seventeen
business houses in India. The CSR
definition followed here is that it
is the obligation of the firm to use
its resources in ways to benefit society,
through committed participation
as a member of society,
taking into account the society at
large, and improving the welfare
of the society independently of
the direct gains to the company.
The study also takes a
stakeholder’s perspective towards
CSR. The author discusses
CSR amongst select Indian enterprises
and concludes with a critical
evaluation of their CSR initiatives.
