Abstract
Policy makers are continuously
emphasizing upon devising a
strategy that can offload the
burden on farm sector by reducing
disguised unemployment and
also ensure sustained increased
earnings of the remaining farmers.
Agro-industries in general
and food processing industries
in particular are expected to
play a catalytic role at this juncture.
This study is an attempt to
find out the dominance, factor
productivity growth and convergence
of food processing industries
using three-digit level data
collected from Annual Survey of
Industries for years 1980-81 to
2015-16.Results indicate that an
increase in output in the food
processing sector has taken
place at the cost of labor and
high growth is achieved by replacing
labor with technology.
