Abstract

The rise of the Gig economy, especially in platform services like cab driving and food delivery, has transformed traditional labor frameworks. Gig workers, classified as independent contractors, often lack the protections afforded to regular employees. This article examines the legal status of gig workers, existing protective legislation, and compares international regulatory approaches. It also discusses the International Labor Organization (ILO) efforts to address the challenges faced by gig workers and the debate over classifying them as employees, weighing the pros and cons of such a change, including its impacts on flexibility, protections, and economic effects.
