Abstract
This research study assesses the
impact of glass ceiling factors
such as personal factors, family
factors, organizational factors,
and cultural factors on women
career development of executive level
female employees in the IT
industry in Sri Lanka. The study
was a quantitative and cross-sectional
one. Data were collected
through self-administered questionnaires.
The simple random
sampling technique was applied
to select the sample of 101 respondents.
The data were analyzed
mainly using correlation and regression
analyses. The results
showed a strong negative relationship
between glass ceiling factors
and women career development.
It is suggested that women should
understand the importance of the
glass ceiling issues and should
actively confront them in order to
make their career development.
