Abstract
The rise of multinational corporations
from emerging economies
is a distinctive facet of the current
globalization wave, with important
implications for our understanding
of the world economy, global
business and international political
economy. Andrea Goldstein shows
that the need to compete internationally
and acquire the
necessary competencies and assets
is the force that drives firms to
invest abroad at an early stage of
their history. In so far as emerging
multinationals are embedded in
dense political, social and ethnic
networks, the history of multinational
business offers valuable
lessons for the present.
