Abstract
Labor Statistics in India is largely derived from the administration of labor laws and in some cases even its conceptual basis has been derived from the labor law concerned. The labor
statistics is collected by two primary agencies, viz. the Labor Bureau and the Central Statistical Organization (CSO). The statistical system was designed during the command economy and contextualized in a not so-well developed non-agricultural sectoral economy. The structural changes in the economy
and labor market and the significant changes concerning the economic and labor market policies in the post-globalization period have impacted significantly the labor statistics. As a result of these and other factors serious gaps exist in the labor statistics.
