Abstract
With the development of alternative sources of funds, the dependence of industry on commercial banks for meeting their credit
supplies has been declined although the share of credit to industry in India has significantly increased over the years. The commercial banks
have of late emerged as the major supplier of industrial credit for small and Medium Entreprises (SME). There have been several confusing
features of credit flow to SME sector in recent years. Hence, an experiential study on efficacy of financial institution in financing small sector
is relevant exercise. The present paper, therefore, is an attempt to examine the role of financial institutions in financing SME sector in Garo
Hills of Meghalaya.
