Abstract
Social media/social networking sites are emerging technologies that have brought transformations and innovations in the provision of library and information services around the world. The paper explored the extent of adoption of social media/social networking sites by Nigerian university libraries. The findings of the study indicate that out 22 federal universities in Nigeria that were selected for the study, only 8 university libraries have adopted social media/social networking sites in the provision of library and information services. It was found that Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Google+ were the most popular social media/social networking sites that are being used by Nigerian university libraries for the provision of library and information services. Furthermore, the generation of Nigerian universities was found to have no influence on adoption of social media/social networking sites by the university libraries. Appropriate recommendations were made based on the findings of the study.
