Abstract

This article deals with the animation films being produced these days in India, mostly portraying mythological characters like Lord Ganesha, Hanumana, Krishna, Arjuna, etc. In this age of industrialisation and globalised world, these characters are put in modern context, i.e., riding a bike, dressed in modern day clothes, and using modern day phrases and words in the dialogue. Also different modern day issues of the society are shown being tackled by the Gods, like environmental issues, terrorism, unity in diversity, etc. So these films are putting forward the modern day issues which are important for the human existence and societal development among the children and teenagers who are the future of the world. At the same time these films reflect and comment on the different sociocultural issues of present times. While discussing this aspect of the animation films a background on the development of this genre is being considered.
