Abstract
This paper examines the sales and inventory of 13
commodities disposed off from organized retail outlets in
Noida in 2006. A linear programming model has been
developed to estimate the maximum sales of these 13
commodities with given level of stocks/inventories. This is
the primal programme. Its dual examines the minimization
of inventories of the same 13 commodities. Both sales and
inventories are used to determine the efficiency bench
mark in the management of sales and maintenance of the
maximization of sales. Empirical findings have been used
to determine the distance between the three best actual
sales and inventory of goods respectively on the one hand,
and best three performers in sales and inventories based on
solution values on the other. Distance between best three
actual and solution based data performers will highlight
the differences between actual and ideal solution values.
Conformance between sales and inventories has also been
examined.
