Abstract
This paper focuses on the skills, characteristics and
personality traits of owner managers (Entrepreneurial
Orientation construct) of Small and Medium Enterprises
(SMEs) in Rajasthan state and examines it relation with
Export Performance (EP) of the firms. A sample of 397 was
collected from SMEs in the state representing various
industry sectors. A two-step structural equation modelling
procedure is employed in this study for estimating
parameters: a measurement model followed by a structural
model. The results suggest that there is a strong relation
between EO and EP among the firms. The owner-managers
of this region show innovativeness as a dominant
personality trait which has positively affected the export
performance of the firms in Rajasthan state. The study also
finds evidence that the entrepreneurs are to some extent
calculated risk takers and proactive in their approach.
