Abstract
The Indian stock market has undergone a significant transformation in recent years, with the introduction of exchange-traded funds (ETFs), low-cost brokerage options, and robo-advisors democratizing access to investment opportunities. The emergence of mobile trading applications, coupled with reduced or eliminated trading fees, has enabled individuals with modest incomes to engage in stock investments. This study aims to examine the impact of neobroker platforms on investor behaviour, risk tolerance, financial literacy, and investment outcomes in the Indian context. The research focuses on how app features, interfaces, and functionalities influence users’ investment strategies, risk assessments, and financial decisions. The study hypothesizes that frequent use of trading apps leads to higher trading frequency, increased risk tolerance over time, and less rational, long-term investment motives among neobroker users compared to general investors. Additionally, the research investigates whether the majority of neobroker users invest primarily to enhance their retirement savings and if their financial literacy has improved through the use of trading apps. The study also examines whether neobroker users achieve better annual returns compared to other investors. The findings of this research have important implications for regulations, financial education initiatives, trading platform design, and the overall dynamics of the Indian stock market. The insights gained from this study can contribute to the development of more effective investor protection measures, educational resources, and risk management tools within trading applications.
