Abstract
Oktoberfest is the world’s largest folk and beer festival in Munich, Germany, which attracts significant numbers of tourists annually to the city. Recently, the most authentic version of this festival was also introduced in Pune. It is a metro city in the state of Maharashtra (India) and is globally known for its IT parks and educational institutes. As the fest started recently in the city, it attracted a limited number of participants. The literature review highlighted the unavailability of research on the topic of the Oktoberfest of Pune. In this vein, the present research study compared the Oktoberfest celebrated in Munich and Pune. A mixed-method approach, including qualitative and quantitative research, was used for the study. The researcher has collected all the relevant data from the available resources. The survey of people who had attended the event earlier was executed. Preliminary observations revealed that low awareness among tourists about the fest is a big hurdle. Further, a detailed discussion on the development of the Oktoberfest, Pune, as a tourism product is provided along with the SWOT analysis. Descriptive analysis of the survey of the event attendees put forward positive reviews about the event. Further, constructive suggestions are provided which are useful for the event organisers, destination designers and marketers.
