Abstract
Financial Technology (FinTech) has revolutionised the financial services sector, and mobile payments are making them a significant factor in digital financial inclusion and engagement. This systematic literature review aims to integrate the findings from empirical studies which have examined mobile payment and consumer adoption of FinTech services, what trends have emerged and what implications can be drawn from consumer adoption. Data was retrieved according to the PRISMA guidelines from SCOPUS, Web of Science and Google Scholar, leading to a final sample of 32 empirical studies until May 2026. According to the findings, perceived usefulness, ease of use, trust, security and perceived risk are the most influential factors of FinTech adoption. Mobile payment adoption has a positive impact on financial inclusion, business performance of MSMEs and the overall FinTech ecosystem. This study adds to the literature by providing a comprehensive and structured synthesis of the studies on mobile payment and FinTech adoption, and revealing the gaps that need to be explored in future studies, especially on how mobile payment and FinTech are adopted in the longer term, on the financial impacts of mobile payment and FinTech adoption, and on the experiences of underserved populations.
