A global language acts as a ‘lingua franca’. The emergence of English as a global language gets its impact from the British, as they ruled world over. A common language enables people from diverse backgrounds and ethnicities to communicate and exchange ideas to make a living. But the influence of any language is a combination of few major aspects like the number of countries using it as their first language or mother tongue, number of countries adopting it as their official language and number of countries teaching it as their second or foreign language. Thus English language makes it to the commonly used language for medium of instruction or communication in major parts of the world. With the invasion of the British in India and the establishment of the English East India Company, English language came into existence in a country like India which has diverse ethnicity, culture and languages. This contributes to the various pedagogies in teaching English language in different parts of the country for education, official communications and employment. This leads to the dominant didactic cultural influences of the vernacular languages. Most people who belong to the rural and marginalised communities still learn English as a foreign language and the impact of mother tongue and regional slangs is very prominent when they communicate. This paper focuses on the impact of region in teaching English language.
