Abstract
The integration of AI-powered pedagogical strategies has transformed English as a Foreign Language (EFL) teaching, yet the combined effect of AI tools and teacher enthusiasm on learner engagement remains underexplored. This study investigates the impact of AI-driven teaching methods, alongside teacher enthusiasm, on EFL learners’ willingness to communicate, enjoyment, and boredom. Grounded in recent advancements in educational technology, this research adopts a mixed-methods approach, incorporating both quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews. A sample of 200 EFL learners from various educational institutions participated, with AI-based language learning applications integrated into the curriculum. Teacher enthusiasm was measured through classroom observations and learner feedback; following methods outlined by Brown et al. (2021). The key findings indicate that AI-powered strategies significantly enhanced learners’ willingness to communicate, particularly when paired with high levels of teacher enthusiasm. Learners reported greater enjoyment and reduced boredom in environments where both technological and emotional engagements were prioritized (Jones et al., 2020; Lee, 2023). However, excessive reliance on AI without
adequate teacher enthusiasm led to learner
disengagement, highlighting the importance of balancing technology with human interaction. These results contribute to the growing body of literature on AI in education and emphasize the role of teacher enthusiasm in mitigating the emotional challenges faced by EFL learners. This study provides practical insights for educators aiming to optimize AI integration while fostering a positive and engaging learning environment.
