Abstract
This conceptual paper contributes to the cyberloafing literature by reviewing existing studies on its antecedents, the theories that explain this behavior, its positive and negat i ve i mpact s, c ont roll i ng cyberloafing through monitoring, and the associated risks. The central argument of this paper is that punitive measures often address the symptoms but not the underlying causes, and that monitoring and controlling might degenerate trust and loyalty among employees. For a structured presentation of all arguments, a bibliometric analysis has been conducted on Scopus-enlisted journals. The paper concludes with some non-punitive, positive interventions to address this behavior.
