Abstract
The study examines the factors influencing happiness and satisfaction in the single- and dualcareer families. Data were collected from 240 single- and 240 dual-career spouses at Kolkata and Kharagpur. Results suggest that the level of educational attainment, family income, and jointly living do not influence happiness and satisfaction. Irrespective of family type, the higher the level of multitasking attitude and marital adjustment, the higher are the level of happiness and satisfaction. More time spent on household work, freedom of both the partners, and liberated belief on gender roles retard happiness and satisfaction. The findings lend support to traditional gender roles.
